Mudbox 2012 update and new features
In the latest round of updates of Autodesk tools for digital entertainment creation, Mudbox gains UV-less painting tools

UV-less painting is the main update in Mudbox 2012
While Autodesk is showcasing its 2012 software line at this year’s GDC in San Francisco (exhibition runs between 2-4 March), those that can’t attend are scrutinising the new feature lists that have been released this week.
New features in Mudbox 2012:
- UV-Less Painting ― texture artists can reduce the time-consuming task of creating UVs. Complex assets comprising multiple meshes can be loaded, and painted straight away
- Large Texture Datasets ― paint and manage large texture datasets, in order to create the highly detailed assets. A new texture and tile management system has been employed so artists can display and paint hero assets with hundreds of texture maps consisting of billions of texels
- Multiple Joints ― Users can create, manage, and weight multiple joints to deform and pose full-figure models. Create symmetrical pairs of joints, while joint hierarchies can be created automatically based on influenced vertices
