Leviathan creates new spots for science museum
Production house Leviathan has completed two 30-second spots for the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI)
Titled ‘Body Worlds’ and ‘Science Rules!’, the videos bring two MSI exhibits to life.
The team at Leviathan spent time in the museum, observing how visitors interacted with the exhibits before decided on a full CG approach.
Using references from the actual exhibits, Leviathan assembled a large modelling and surfacing team to tackle each detail, assigning separate simulation teams for each piece. The biggest challenges were creating the waves, rain and the giant tornado.
High-resolution models
Another major challenge was the opening globe scene, which included rocket blasts from a shuttle, spray from a ship, cloth simulations, and of course the tornado simulation – which all required the use of high-res models.
“We used mental ray and RealFlow for the natural phenomena, and V-Ray to manage our renders, and through a really great team of artists, it all came together quite well,” says Leviathan Creative Director Bradon Webb.
