Wacom Cintiq 24HD demo at 3D World
Wacom visited 3D World recently to demo the new Cintiq 24HD widescreen display
After showing us its smallest product, the Wacom Inkling, the biggest was then unveiled to 3D World: the brand new behemoth Cintiq24HD.
Having taken criticism and requests on board about its earlier Cintiq systems, this huge tablet display pretty much answers all previous concerns.
The 24-inch (1,920×1,200) screen is larger and brighter than its predecessor, able to display 92% of Adobe sRGB colour gamut, but is also cooler thanks to a built-in fan system.
The button arrays on either side have been simplified and made easier to use, the led lights have been moved (after Wacom kept seeing systems with black tape over them), and the new stand enables the screen to be used in a variety of positions, either upright or shallowly sloped, and able to dangle over the edge of a table, providing a range of comfortable working positions.
The wide bezel also provides plenty of real-estate for arm-resting.
Additionally, the 24HD removes the all-in-one cable that, if broken, took time to replace. Now it relies on standard power and display connectors that can be picked up in any PC store.
At £1,999 inc. VAT, it’s a pricey piece of kit, but for matte painters, texture artists or digital sculptors who have to use these systems for hours on end, it’s probably a small price to pay for improved accuracy and comfort.
