Create an amazing spaceship take-off sequence with the tutorials in 3D World’s November 2011 issue. Watch the finished sequence and download 6.8GB of tutorial files, including 20 hours of video!

In 3D World 148, you can create a full sci-fi animation of a spaceship taking off from a future city and heading off into space. We show you how to model and texture the ship and its landing pad, then create the animation as it blasts off. From there, you’ll head into space to assemble a space backdrop with a textured planet, before animating the ship’s interstellar trajectory. Finally you can add atmospheric effects to the take-off sequence and grade the entire footage.

The November 2011 issue of 3D World includes 37 pages of tutorials explaining these stages. Here, you can download all the scene files and videos you need to follow these tutorials.

The project is designed to reflect a multi-application pipeline of the sort that might be deployed for a real-world VFX sequence, so you can see how assets are developed and passed to teammates for further development. This means a variety of applications are used throughout the project. If you are not following the entire project, the tutorial files for each part are self-contained, with all the assets you need to complete that section.
