Got a question about the new iPad and iPhone editions of 3D World? Find the answers here
3D World now has its own app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, enabling you to download digital issues directly to your iOS device and read 3D World on the go. The 3D World Magazine app joins our existing Zinio digital edition – and, of course, good old print.
Here, we explain some of the details about the new app. If you have a question that we haven’t addressed, just add a comment and we’ll update this list.
Q: What is the 3D World Magazine app?
A: It’s a free program for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch that enables you to purchase, download and read a digital version of 3D World. You can buy a single issue or choose a subscription lasting three, six or 12 issues. If you subscribe, new issues will download automatically. If your device is running iOS 5, your issues will also appear in your Newsstand app.
What do I need to use the app?
An iPad, iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 4.3 or later.
Which issues are available?
Every issue from 147 up.
Can I read these magazines on my desktop or laptop computer?
Not at present.
Can I buy 3D World via the Newsstand app in iOS 5 instead of downloading the 3D World Magazine app?
Yes, although the 3D World Magazine app will be a more convenient way to find issues as you build your collection.
Does this mean you’re ending your Zinio edition?
No: you can still purchase and download issues via Zinio if you prefer. Zinio offers free software for Windows, Mac OS X and iPad.
I subscribe to the print edition of 3D World. Can I transfer my subscription to the new iOS edition?
Sorry, no: Apple doesn’t share the personal information of customers who use its iTunes Store and App Store, so we’re unable to transfer your subscriber information to your Apple account.
I subscribe to the Zinio edition of 3D World. Can I transfer my subscription to the new iOS edition?
Sorry, no: see the above answer.
I subscribe to the print edition of 3D World. Do I also get access to a digital edition as part of that?
Not at present.
When I download an issue, do I get the disc contents?
The official answer is no, we don’t offer any of the disc contents with any digital edition. However, the 3D World team is currently providing any of our own tutorial files that we include on the disc to digital readers. See www.3dworldmag.com/claim for details of what’s available and how to claim your files. We’re working on a more complete and elegant solution that we hope to offer soon.
How about an Android app?
You never know.
UPDATE, 17 OCT: There isn’t a 3D World Magazine app for Android, but you can read 3D World on your Android device using Zinio, which now offers its free Zinio Reader app via the Android Market.
