For day three’s festive fun we bring you some fantastic training from Digital-Tutors

As promised, 3D World’s Advent Calendar continues in its quest to give all you 3D artists out there a stocking filler every day until Christmas.

If you’ve ever fancied learning the basics of creating a game, now’s your chance. Make sure you unwrap this little gem from Digital-Tutors.

Day 3: Beginner’s Guide to Unity

In this series of Unity tutorials, Chris Glick shows you how to use Unity. The tutorial covers what Unity is, what it can do, and what it cannot do. From there, you’ll examine the parts of a game in Unity and learn how they interact to create a game. Next you’ll open a partially completed project and scene to navigate the Unity interface and Scene view. Then you’ll import a model from a 3D application and place it into our level.

You’ll also learn how to transform and edit objects and components to customise your game, and how to run around your game using the two built-in character controllers. From there you’ll learn an easy way to create interactions using triggers. The tutorial finishes by creating a small script to track your player’s health and build your game to be run on PC or Mac platforms.
