“I was inspired to create this image after playing the game Shift 2 Unleashed, where I fell in love with this remarkable car, the Sumo Power Nissan GT-R GT1.

“I wanted to push my skills to the limit and create as photorealistic an image as I could.

“Everything was modelled in Cinema 4D with basic modelling tools and Anton Marchenko’s MultiSlide plug-in. I chose V-Ray for rendering the scene – it’s my favourite render engine, and I like the complexity of the render setting parameters, which allow me to optimise speed and quality.

“For texturing I used BodyPaint and Photoshop. Some colour grading and extra effects such as noise, vignetting and lens flares were added in Nuke.”

“Before I started modelling I created a ‘spline cage’ of the most important car lines. This helped me to keep the precision and smoothness of the mesh. I used it mainly to snap vertices onto, and it came in handy if I needed to make major changes to the mesh.

“I covered the car with thousands of water drops, modelling three different shapes of drops and then scattering them using MoGraph.”

We love the reflections in the glass and on the car’s surface – very difficult to make look realistic.
