Jesús Orellana’s sci-fi short, designed to be a calling card to Hollywood, has been picked up by 20th Century Fox. If you’ve not seen this epic short yet, you really are missing out…

When we first saw Rosa last year, we were absolutely blown away by the beautiful dark visuals in this brooding animation.

Since its release last year, Rosa has been grabbing the attention of not just the tech and geek sites – in little over a day it had crossed over into the mainstream, featuring everywhere from Wired to USA Today. And now it’s been picked up by 20th Century Fox!

Amazingly Orellana produced this 10-minute wonder with no budget and taught himself the 3D programs needed to create it. Well if that’s not inspiring, we don’t know what is!

Description of Rosa

“Rosa is a dark sci-fi short that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where all natural life has disappeared. From the destruction awakes Rosa, a cyborg deployed from the Kernel project, mankind’s last attempt to restore the earth’s ecosystem.”

“Rosa will soon learn that she is not the only entity that has awakened and must fight for her survival.”

From home computer to Hollywood director

Since it’s world premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival, Rosa has been an official selection at film festivals around the world such as Screamfest, Toronto After Dark, Anima Mundi or Los Angeles Shorts Film Festival.

In October 2011, the short was screened at the opening night of the Sitges International Film Festival.

Following the successful festival run, Rosa has attracted the attention of Hollywood producers and is currently in development to be turned into a live-action motion picture by 20th Century Fox.

In the past few years we’ve seen filmmakers like Neill Blomkamp and Aaron Sims break into Hollywood with visually impressive shorts, so it’s little wonder that Rosa has also drawn the attention of Hollywood.
