Default Cardboard Robot Cinema 4D Animation

Hi everyone,

Just finished this Cinema 4D animation I made for my twin daughter's 4th birthday, inspired by a robot they'd made out of cardboard and toilet rolls. Took about 8 weeks to produce. Since I had no prior experience of character animation and rigging I'm fully aware that it isn't technically perfect and there's tons of stuff I'd like to have spent more time fixing but I'm fairly happy with the finished result. Comments welcome for how I could improve for future projects. Post work and grading done in After Effects. I used a mirrored ball to create my own HDRI map which was a great help!

Pros: Nice animation. Bit repetitive, but pretty smooth. The whole vid has a really professional polish.

Cons: Despite the professional polish I don't like the washed out pink render you got going. I realise you made it for your daughter but if someone didn't read that they'd think it's just really random (dancing robot in a little girl's room. WTF!!!). Also, that song!!!! Why? If you wanted to alienate 99% of your audience keep choosing music like that (I nearly stopped the video before I even got to the animation).

Overall, you've got great animation skills, maybe choose a better subject matter next time.

Thanks for the comments, good and bad! Think you may have missed the point a bit, this was a present for my 4 year old twins which is why I filmed it in their room. The music was just a bit of fun, they have Just Dance 3 which is where the song is from. I'm fairly happy with the grading although I can appreciate that it's completely subjective, one person could like it another dislike. Really value any comments anyway so thanks for being honest! Hopefully will upload some more work in progress movies so would be good to get feedback.

Regards
Gareth

Thumbs up My thoughts

Awesome dude. Your reason for doing it is exactly what got me into 3d, I wanted to make short movies for my kids too. That didn't pan out like I hoped and now they are grown up but I got grand babies now and there are lots of them to build for.
Anyway I like it, cute idea music fits the video and theme although there were two places I saw objects not transforming around each other, one spot it appeared the torso sank into the left leg near the beginning of the dance.
But great job I admire your reason especially.
