Now to be the party pooper...to some degree.
If we do Mechs, they would have to be an original design, otherwise it may stop becoming a contest of whose Mech looks the best but a contest of which mech from universe X is the best (only because I feel we'll all make super accurate mechs from their prospective universe... )Worse I started questioning which mechs do we use? So according to wikipedia... A mech (plural: mecha or mechs), is a science fiction term for a large walking, usually bipedal, robot, including ones on treads and animal shapes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecha Than I started asking myself...light walker or travel mechs with one pilot? Or the big huge hulking behemoths? Or something in between? What about the Mechs that end up giving birth to MORE mechs (like something that launches several mechs at once...) Yet we also all keep agreeing on the Twisted Fairy tale topic being cool. So what if we mashed those two together? A Twisted Fairy Tale Mech? examples: B.B. Wolf-1 with her pilot Red Riding Hood? D0R-7HY with her pilot Toto? The Uber-Huge Sno-Whyte Mech Dwarfing her seven pilots. Than again who said they had to have pilots either? I'll be honest...the topic scares me (I question my hard surfacing) However 3D world did recently do a really nice Zbrush article on building a "mechanical masterpiece," So what better thing than a competition showing results from their own mag? Ok I'll stop, I feel like I'm rambling. |

Just wondering, have the 3D World Forum's, ever held a speed modelling competition? I think instead of a month long competition next time, we could host a series of speed modelling/texturing/lighting/compositing/special effects-ing competitions (I just listed everything I could think of :P) or not a series, just one and that could be that month's comp.
What does everyone else think? |

we did try some speed modelling comps a while ago, they were kind of sidelines to the main comp, just a bit of fun for an hour or so. After a few goes they appeared to die a death though (i.e. no / very few entries).

I'd like to see the speed modelling come back, there are more people here now ( hard to believe I know... ) and also and more importantly New people. If we did speed modelling once a month or once a fortnight it would be cool. Other people - this is your time to let everyone know if you think this is a good idea or not ?

I like the idea of doing some speed modeling every two weeks. Maybe it could be a two part competition.. speed modeling and then speed texturing of the speed model you made. I've always wanted to create some CG food that looks good enough to make my mouth water. Realistic or stylized renders would be cool to see. I think the Pixar movie Ratatouille did a great job with the food.
We could each do this independently or we could each speed model some type of food and then all vote for one person to win. The winner would then upload an .obj file of their 3D model and we all speed texture/render the same model and vote for the best result. It might add some extra excitement to the creative challenge because its more of a collaboration between artists. Let me know what you think!
