3D World 114's Showreel animation

Discover how an oversized cranium can dramatically change the course of your career in Frank Had A Dream, Dae Jung's tale of superheroes gone bad

Frank dreams of being a superhero. And, if it were simply a matter of cranial capacity, by rights he should be the smartest one around. He has the strength, he has a cool costume, and he has an identity-hiding mask – but, unfortunately, he also has an oversized forehead: something that leads to his ultimate failure to become the world’s latest supercharged law enforcer. Try as he might, he just can’t get his new yellow mask to fit over his big fat head…

Put together while he was a student at Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Dae Jung’s short ‘Frank Had A Dream’ reflects his lifelong love of superhero comics. But to achieve his stated goal of gaining access to the 3D industry by creating an animation with weight, balance and a nuanced character performance, the animator had to create something that owed as much to slapstick as Superman. To put it bluntly, Frank is more Mr. Incredible than he is… well, incredible.
