Animazoo and Musion announce strategic link

REPOSTED FROM PRESS RELEASE

Award winning motion capture company, Animazoo and Musion, who brought life-size holograms of the Gorillaz to the MTV awards and Madonna to the Grammy’s, have announced a deal that will enable 3-dimensional content to be produced live.

The new venture will fuse the Musion Eyeliner Virtual Hologram Projector system with Animazoo motion capture technology, to enable life-size holograms of people or characters to interact with audiences in real time.

The projector system works by using a specially developed foil that reflects images from high definition video projectors, making it possible to produce virtual images of incredible clarity. The image appears within a stage set, but the mechanism of projection is invisible to the audience. Its use, together with Animazoo’s mocap technology, will enable users to bring to life interactive displays, retail events, conferences and trade shows.

Musion’s system was used recently to enable Prince Charles to address the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dabi as a hologram. In this instance, the hologram of Prince Charles was pre-recorded. By linking with Animazoo, characters will be able to appear as a hologram and interact with the audience in real time.

Ian O’Connell, director, Musion said: “The link with Animazoo enables us to further captivate audiences with live interaction, taking the capabilities of the projector system to a new level. It opens up endless opportunities for businesses who want to reach out and communicate with customers in a more engaging way.”

Ali Kord, founder and director of technology, Animazoo said: “These complementary technologies enable us to bring motion capture to new audiences. Animazoo technology enables users to have instant directional control over the movements of characters, expanding the capabilities from pre-recorded images to live and interactive performance.”

Animazoo’s motion capture systems are portable and work by taking measurements from limbs and not the joints to avoid distortion, and for ease of sensor placement. As each limb moves the positions or angles between the markers are sensed in real time. Sensors keep a track of angle velocities and magnitudes between all limbs, which is streamed in real time onto any 3D character (human-like or cartoon), and moves it accurately according to the sensors, recording it if necessary. The process makes way for a whole new world of options in entertainment.
