Panic Attack! From YouTube to the big screen

Congratulations to Fede Alvarez, who‘s landed a contract to direct a full-length sci-fi epic after posting his short Ataque de Pánico! (Panic Attack!) on YouTube. Ataque de Pánico! is an impressive proof-of-concept VFX piece showing robots attacking Montevideo in Uruguay. The new movie will be shot in Uruguay and Argentina, with Sam Raimi as one of the producers.

Brilliant film, well put together and the special effects are excellent. It shows anyone given dedication and vision can get their ideas out their and be 'found' by Hollywood.

I saw it and wondered, where is the story? But then again, for "Hollywood" that often doesn't matter much... You could make nice toys out of it!

Honestly guys, poor design, bad animation and senseless display of violence. that's really it. We don't need more of this Roland Emmerich shit. Time to start something new, don't you think?

Well, Hollywood knows that it is hard to scale the story of a short to full feature length. And with "story" I mean a real story. With introduction, development, climax, (happy) end...

But if the whole "story" is: [aliens|robots|Maya (R)] suddenly emerge and start destroying [town|country|earth], this "story" can easily be scaled from 5 min to 2 hours.

2012, Transformers, etc. is the proof.
