The update focuses on expanding the software’s reach in regards to handling data and integration.

“This release will have some great artist tools and will expand RV’s customization options with Python and Javascript-based web integration,” explains Seth Rosenthal, co-founder of Tweak Software.

New features:

Presentation mode – Display a full screen view on one monitor while controlling playback from another.

Stereo 3D TV support for HDMI 1.4a and DVI

Javacript Web Integration

ARRI Alexa ARRIRAW file support

RED RAW file support

ACES files and colour spaces – RV supports the Academy Color Encoding Specification (IIF ACES) including the ability to write .aces files from RVIO.

CDL support

Next-level integration – Nuke and Shotgun integration both include a host of updates and refinements.

Tweak RV is already used by some leading CG animation and VFX studios including Digital Domain, Aardman, ILM and Zoic Studios, which use the tool the to play back and review digital media.

Built on an open architecture, users can adapt the software to their own pipelines.

The new features will be shown on the Tweak Software booth (#963) at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver between 9-11 August, ahead of a fall 2011 release.

RV, the next generation image and sequence viewer for VFX and animation looks set to benefit from the ALEXA’s technology following previews at NAB 2011 this week.

The software is already used by leading VFX and CG animation studios including Digital Domain, Aardman and ILM, which use RV to playback and review digital media.

The matching of technologies was only finalised a few weeks ago, and since then Tweak’s development team has fast-tracked ALEXA Log C and ARRIRAW support into RV in time for an NAB 2011 preview.

“The ALEXA’s astonishing dynamic range and wide colour gamut makes it a great source for VFX plates and elements,” says Tweak co-founder Seth Rosenthal.

“RV’s floating point, high dynamic range image pipeline, linear-light workflow and uncompromised colour handling are a natural match for ALEXA imagery in a high-end VFX pipeline.”

Tweak Software, maker of image and sequence viewer RV, and the Foundry have released a new package, integrating the technology of RV into Nuke.

The developers are hoping that by bringing RV playback to Nuke, users will be able to experience a seamless workflow, allowing them to play back, organise, compare, and track the history of their work in Nuke.

Key features:

View frames in RV as they render from Nuke

Play back from RAM or stream from disk

Automatically preserves a visual history of renders

Render directly into an existing EDL, layout of A/B comparison

Restore the Nuke script to match any render or checkpoint

Share read nodes between Nuke and RV

“This integration opens up a whole new workflow that makes Nuke and RV more valuable together than they are individually,” says Frank Reuter, compositing supervisor at OHUfx.

The new RV/Nuke integration package is available as free download to current users of Nuke and RV. Artists can also request a demo of the full RV software from the Tweak Software website.
